While we believe moms deserve to be celebrated every day, we have just one day to really show them how much they are appreciated. Mother’s Day is just around the corner, so it’s time to start planning something thoughtful and fun that will fill her heart up with love. No need to spend a lot of money, as sentimental gifts and spending time with family brings more joy anyhow.
Tour a Local Garden
Mother’s Day is often correlated with flowers, so instead of bringing your mom flowers– why not bring her to the flowers? Check your local Facebook page for festive outdoor events. Or perhaps a local museum or public space has a beautiful garden you can tour.
Bake Something Fun
Forget your typical sugar cookies and brownies. Try something new with mom and bake a delicious strawberry limeade layer cake. Sometimes the process of baking is just as fun as devouring.
Take an Art or Pottery Class
Check with your local YMCA or community center for free art classes to keep costs low. Or host your own virtual paint party that you can do in the comfort of your own home. Creating something you can keep with your mom makes the event all the more sentimental.
Take a Road Trip
Rent her favorite car or take her on a surprise road trip to somewhere she’s never been (or everywhere she wants to go). Play her favorite tunes while you take a relaxing drive.
Take a Yoga Class
For the active moms out there, there’s nothing better than starting your Sunday morning off with a workout class. Take her to her favorite yoga, spin, or Pilates class and spoil her with a fun brunch (and mimosas) after.
Go to an Art Exhibit
Getting out of the house and browsing your local art gallery or museum is good for the soul. It will allow for fun, cultural discussions of local and widely known artists and their work.
Go to a Farmers Market
Spring is the perfect time of year to visit a farmer’s market. Fresh flowers, local artistry, and the smell of sweetness from baked goods and coffee will put anyone in a good mood.
See a Play
Going to a play isn’t something we think about doing just any old day, but it sure is fun. Make an event of it and have dinner at her favorite restaurant before. If no plays are showing, try a movie or better yet– have the kids put on a show.
Get a Hotel Day Pass
Many hotels these days will allow for a pool and spa day pass. Pamper her by taking her to a nice hotel where you can enjoy a one-stop shop of food, spas, and fun in the pool.
Lazy Day
Moms are always running around making sure our needs are met. For the weekend, let her do the sleeping in for once. Clean the house, the car, do the laundry, and make her breakfast in bed. Everyone could use a reset weekend, especially moms.
It never hurts to throw in a thoughtful handwritten card and bouquet of flowers. Don’t forget to let her know how much you care on other days, too. Show your mom how much you appreciate her by telling her. A little goes a long way and of course, it doesn’t have to be expensive.
